Corneal blindness is the world’s fourth major cause of blindness. The two most common bases for corneal blindness are trauma, often associated with eye surgery and genetic abnormalities such as Fuchs dystrophy or bullous keratopathy. Bullous keratopathy, also known as edematous keratopathy, is a severe eye disorder that results from damage to the corneal endothelium, a monolayer of cells located on the posterior surface of the cornea.
